Nidor, a world given life by titans
Sprawling through the walled heavily guarded area of Ziggarat known as Oboro, Ecclesia is the one and only recognized order of wizards within the city. It is through their dominance of the economy (through it’s protection and creation of the platinum slates) that give the wizards of Ecclesia most of their power. Sects within the larger organization handle specific slices of the overall operation. While pure prowess of spellcasting is important, it is of note that character level does not determine ranking within the order. Guile and cunning can lead even a low level spellcaster to major positions. Elves make up the majority of order, but in recent decades other races have risen to higher levels of authority; there is no specific restrictions on race. Specialization and archetypes are also accounted for, with certain disciplines lending themselves to specific jobs. Eccelsia is ordered, strict, and on the outside resembles a corporation with an eye for only the bottom line. Within the walls of Oboro however, expermentation is accepted and encouraged. Sorcerers are extremely rare amongst Ecclesia as their typical wild nature does not fit with the severity the order carries.
The majority of all sales within Oboro are conducted with platinum slates; a currency invented centuries ago by an elven alchemist named Nomos. Due to the high prices of most goods, services, and real estate within Oboro common gold pieces were cumbersome and easily stolen. Platinum slates are worth approximately 1000 gp, and can only be given willingly by their current owner. They will always return to their owner if stolen within 24 hours. However, deals that may be underhanded or the death of the owner are final. Nomos has long since passed on, but the creation of this currency remains, carried on by a secretive group within Ecclesia. Their names are unknown to even the most powerful of Ziggarat’s military and political offices.
There are 5 sects of Ecclesia that are free to run their organization as they see fit; a governing council of 3 elders are elected every 20 years amongst these 5 sects. The 8 leaders make all decisions for Ecclesia; how to work with the city of Ziggarat, how to defend their own lands and most importantly what ventures to invest in. Some of these 20 year rules have seen Ecclesia go nearly dark within Ziggarat, as the leaders elected at that time withdrew for whatever reasons. The current term has gone for 4 years and can be described as “cautiously optomistic” by Ziggarat’s leaders. Ecclesia has been proactive in helping the infrastucture of the city; roads, bridges. Most stubbornly however has been their refusal to open direct trade with the city at large. This has led to a huge impact of potions and other arcane goods that have been filled (as best as possible) by individual sorcerers or druids across the city.
